Compose Yourself by ThinkFun is a digital music game and a companion website where children can create, play and share world-class musical compositions in minutes. Invented by Maestro Philip Sheppard, Compose Yourself is a set of musical “building bricks” that encourages kids to “play with” music just like they would with a construction kit. The design takes direct inspiration from Bach and Mozart, who gamified all elements of music.
Compose Yourself, which is lauded for its STEAM benefits, includes 60 transparent music cards, each representing a measure of music that can be viewed in four possible orientations. Players flip, rotate and arrange cards to build an interesting pattern. Next, players enter codes located on the music cards onto the website to hear the composition played by virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie and/or the symphony orchestra from Abbey Road Studios.
With a billion melodies, the musical compositions are seemingly limitless — making it fun for anyone with any (or even no) musical experience. Compose Yourself makes music accessible and fun for kids, while also positively improving language skills, math ability, memory, self-expression and creativity. Compose Yourself is a part of ThinkFun’s family of addictively fun games that ignite 21st century thinking skills.
